The Shoe Hive believes in cooperating with other small businesses in an effort to promote the benefits of shopping local. As a result, we have taken on a leadership role in Alexandria’s burgeoning boutique business community, helping found and drive both the Old Town Boutique District and Alexandria Stylebook to promote the city as a shopping destination.
In addition to participation in these collaborative organizations, Elizabeth Todd, the owner of The Shoe Hive practices what she preaches personally. The joke is that Elizabeth never sees a need to leave Old Town. Everything she could possibly want is within walking distance. She gets her coffee at Misha’s and has her hair done at Bazzak. She works out at Fitness on the Run and relies on Sugar House Day Spa for all sorts of pampering. On a Friday night, you will likely find her at Landini Brothers for dinner and on a Saturday morning at La Fontaine Caffe and Creperie for brunch. After she picks her kids up from Old Town Montessori, they walk over to Bittersweet Cafe for lunch and weather permitting Lee Street Park for some playtime or Old Town Theater for the children’s programming. The one place she frequents outside of Old Town? Mind the Mat for hot yoga in Del Ray…five minutes away. If you find yourself in Old Town and want recommendations on where to go and what to do, let us know. We’re always happy to help!
